Trademarks

University departments may use, with permission from ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ's Marketing Communications Department, the ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ institution marks and the ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ trademarks designated as "Lamar Spirit Marks" for:

  • Advertising for the department's services
  • Equipment and supplies
  • Merchandise
  • Signage
  • Websites

The ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ marks may not be altered in any way and all uses must include the department's name/logo prominently. University departments are required to use licensed vendors for all products bearing ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ marks.

Please review the university Visual Standards Manuals for more specific information regarding use guidelines.

Royalty Fees

University departments will not be subject to payment of the royalty fee as long as the proposed design on their merchandise makes the specific university department the predominant element of the design.

However, the use of general ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ marks (LU Star, Cardinal Head, Interlocking LU, etc.) or any licensed Lamar Athletics' marks, where the university department name is not predominant to the design requires payment of the standard royalty fee by the licensed vendor.

Non-Royalty Examples:

  • A t-shirt design with "ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ Office of Public Relations" on the front of the shirt would not be subject to the payment of the royalty fee.
  • A t-shirt design with "ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ Office of Public Relations supports LU Football" on the front of the shirt would not be subject to the payment of the royalty fee.

Royalty Examples:

  • A t-shirt design with only a general ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ mark or any licensed Lamar Athletics' mark would be subject to the payment of the royalty fee.
  • A t-shirt design where the mention of the university department is incidental to a general ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ mark or any licensed Lamar Athletics' mark would be subject to the payment of the royalty fee.
